Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Kultur-, Sozial- und Bildungswissenschaftliche Fakultät - Institut für Asien- und Afrikawissenschaften

Forschen am IAAW

The Humboldt-Universität is one of Germany's selected excellent universities. In accordance with the profile of the German excellence initiative, the institute lays emphasis on ground-breaking theoretical research in social and historical disciplines. We aim to contribute to regional and transregional studies in the spirit of global postmodern discourse.

The IAAW is dedicated to the study of the political, social, cultural and economic development of Asia and Africa. Amongst others, we address questions ranging from globalization and urbanization to heritage, media, gender and environment. Relevant research topics from other fields of research are welcome and inspire us to open new fields of debate. Furthermore, each department has ongoing research topics and research groups, which you can view on the respective department pages of the institute.

The IAAW promotes international cooperation and reaches out to a community of scholars worldwide. We supervise many PhD projects and host postdoctoral researchers in Asian and African studies. We aim at creating a network of people addressing the questions challenging Asia and Africa today.
