Anke Friedel-Nguyen has been a language lecturer for Vietnamese at the IAAW since the 2020/21 winter semester. She had previously held the position of lecturer for two and a half semesters in 2014-2015. She studied Vietnamese on the Vietnamese Studies degree course at the Institute's predecessor institution, the former Asian Studies section of Humboldt University, which she completed in 1987.

She then worked as a lecturer for German as a foreign language at the Herder Institute at Leipzig University and went to Vietnam in 1998, where she taught German at the Hanoi National University's College of Foreign Languages, at the Goethe Institute and as part of a pilot project in a degree program at Dresden University of Technology.

She was responsible for the Vietnam section of the Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon (AKL) as a freelance editor until 2014.

Since returning to Berlin in 2010, she has been working as a freelance interpreter and translator in addition to teaching Vietnamese.
